College career

After graduating from high school, Griffin attended Toledo, where he stayed until 2011. As a freshman, he averaged 7.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. As a sophomore, he started 28 games for the Rockets, averaging 12.0 points, 4.0 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game while scoring in double figures against two ranked opponents,
